It’s our turn. Induction planned!

When we went weekly control yesterday, Dr. Yanik informed us about a planned induction on Monday, July 3. This date is 37w+6d of gestation. That was very surprising for us. Because we were not expecting an early delivery. Everything was going normal. Dr. Yanik said that some reasons for this decision were convenience of NICU and being upon reguest by administrator of NICU because of his near vacation. We know that they had only one High Frequency Oscillation Ventilator and no ECMO (which is just nowhere in Turkey!) And dr. said one more baby has been diagnosed, coming from Konya (another big Anatolian city). The baby’s dad is a chemistry professor at Konya Selcuk University.

We have only 11 days! Getting more stressed. Yesterday evening we bought Medela breast pump. We want to have everything ready in the beginning for these tough days. Any idea or extreme reminder for us do you have? Please keep up your prayers for us and other families fighting CDH.

Love,
Aytekin.

Precious little Mert is in my prayers. It is good to have the induction planned as the team to take care of Mert will be on hand and ready instead of rushing around.

Prayers are with you two and Baby Mert. Kylie was also going to be a planned delivery, but she chose to come a little earlier than the planned date. Take care and rest up. I know this is a hard time for you all but Baby Mert has so many people thinking and praying for him.

Hi Aytekin and Emel,

You must be getting very excited now! The only advice that I have is to spend as much time with Mert as you possibly can. Take so many pictures! You can never have enough. Bring a notebook with you to the hospital so that you can remember what the doctors tell you. Sometimes it is hard to remember when there is so much information at once. Anything you don't understand, ask! They will be more than happy to clarify things for you. Bring lots of tissues to the hospital. The hospital kleenex are hard on your nose! Keep your strength and faith up and everything will be ok. I will be thinking of you always!

Lauren also forgot to tell you to take lots of hand lotion. Hospital soap and antibacterial gel can be awfully hard on your hands. Mine were red and chapped the whole time. Seriously, go in there thinking he will survive and never let go of hope. Our prayers are with you.

Aytekin and Emel,
How exciting for you that the time is coming closer for your precious son to finally arrive!! We are praying for you and hope all goes well!!!!!!! Don't forget to read books and sing to your son, even though he will be knocked out it is still important for him to hear your voices of comfort, that may also be soothing and help him stay strong!! I'm so excited for you both, when I get up in the morning one of the first things I do is check and see how you and Emel are doing and what is happening now!! The anticipation is building, we can't wait to meet Baby Mert!! Please make sure to post pictures of him as soon as you can, and the two of you with your precious baby!! Thanks for keeping us up to date!! God Bless you three on the journey you are about to embark upon!! Have a Blessed Day, Be Well, Be Happy!!
Love, Beth

Aytekin and Emel,
I agree with Lauren to take plenty of photos especially on the day he is born because Emel will not remember much because of all the painkillers. One of my big regrets is that I didnt take many photos and they are all I have now. Also trust your instincts, stay positive and never lose hope because our babies are stronger than we think and most of the time even the doctors cannot predict the baby's outcome. Make sure you both get plenty of rest and look after yourselves especially in the early days because Mert will need you to both be strong and it is easy to become overwhelmed and exhausted.

I have little Mert in my thoughts and prayers.

Lots of positive restful thoughts to you--positive for Mert's arrival and fight and restful for now--sleep, relax, enjoy the outdoors, those things will not be plentiful once your hospital journey begins! I have great hope for baby Mert. Lots of love to you!
